About

This site chronicles my evolution from brewing beer in the garage with propane, to brewing indoors in the basement with a high power, high capacity electric/magnetic induction system.

It was a 2+ year process to research the equipment and the approach, to design, and to build out the system. I'm sharing with others who may want to make the move to electric, but want capacity greater than 5 gallons and don't care to install a heating element into a kettle.

I couldn't find what I was looking for in a system that could be purchased, so I built it, and dubbed it the BrewBolt.  The combination of features seems unique to the hobby:
  • Electric:  No propane, no fumes
  • Magnetic induction cooktop:  No heat sticks or elements installed in the kettle
  • High power:  5,000 kW, 240 volts, 30 amps
  • High capacity: Up to 15 gallons per batch
  • Indoor:  Brew in the basement, a permanent indoor location, any time, any weather
  • Two vessel/no sparge:  HLK (combination hot liquor tank and kettle) plus mash tun
  • Pump and manifold system:  Equipment lugging and gravity not required.  Equipment stays in one place for brewing and cleaning.
Check out the pages dedicated to each part of the system to see the design and build.
